Deadlock 1915

Throughout 1915 fighting became increasingly dehumanised as both sides tried to break the deadlock of trench warfare.

The devastation of war on the Western Front continued with major battles at Ypres and Loos. In May 1915, Italy invaded Austro-Hungary and opened up a new front of warfare. Any hopes of the Italian Front breaking the stalemate were soon dashed as fighting became entrenched.
Germany was the first nation to target civilians with an aerial bombing campaign over Britian.
At sea, German submarines indiscriminately attacked passenger ships such as the Lusitania. Britain and France tried to break the stalemate on the Western Front by launching campaigns against the Ottoman Empire in Turkey and the Middle East.
