The Museum’s vision to be a welcoming and vibrant centre for and about Newcastle is taking shape as we develop and strengthen significant partnerships with the community, corporate, education and government sectors. The Museum is becoming increasingly embedded into the local social fabric as more visitors, community groups and schools use and claim this space as their own.
Our major corporate sponsors include:
Xstrata Coal – who contributed $1 million to assist with the construction of the new Museum. Their significant contribution is appreciated by the 1000’s of visitors who enter the Xstrata Gallery to visit Supernova, Mininova, the Earthball and visiting exhibitions.
BHP Billiton – who contributed a significant legacy of from the closure of the BHP facility in Newcastle in 1999. This contribution was used to build the BHP Gallery and the steelworks sounds and light show that attract visitors from around the world to learn about the significant industrial history of BHP in the Hunter region.
Orica - who fund the Museum Express science outreach program that delivers science education ro primary school students throughout the Hunter and Central Coast
Other sponsors and funding bodies who contributed to the development of the Museum at its Honeysuckle location include Mirvac, Lang O'Rourke and the Australian Government though their Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan.
