Newcastle Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday 10am – 5pm and open Mondays during New South Wales school holidays.

Admission

  • Free entry to the Museum and permanent exhibitions.
  • Some temporary exhibitions may require a purchased ticket. Buy online, at the Information Desk or kiosks in the entry foyer.
  • Tip: Pre-book tickets for programs, events and temporary exhibitions via our Exhibitions & Events page.

Concessions

Show your concession card for discounted tickets. Accepted concession cards include:

  • Seniors Card (all states)
  • Australian Student Card
  • Centrelink Healthcare Card

  • Companion Card (free entry for carers to ticketed exhibitions)
  • International Pension Card

Cloaking

Cloaking is available during your visit. Please collect items at least 10 minutes before closing. The Museum may refuse cloaking or close the cloakroom without notice. 

Free Wi-Fi

Connect to our free Wi-Fi throughout the Museum. Access details are available from the Information Desk. 

Conditions of Entry

Help us create a safe and welcoming environment. Please read our Conditions of Entry:

  • Follow signs and directions given by Museum staff
  • Wear shoes and suitable clothing 
  • Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult at all times
  • Smoking is not allowed
  • Food and drink may only be consumed in designated areas
  • Animals are not allowed (except for Guide Dogs and other registered assistance dogs)
  • You can take photos in the Museum. Commercial filming/photography is not allowed except by prior arrangement
  • The Museum can refuse entry and remove anyone from the Museum if their behaviour is considered disruptive or offensive
  • The Museum reserves the right to inspect bags
  • The Museum is not liable for lost or stolen property and will not be held responsible for the loss or damage of object donations left at the Museum which have not been approved by the registrar or their authorised representative.

Photography and Filming

Personal Photography
Visitors are welcome to take photos for personal use. Flash photography is not permitted, unless otherwise indicated.

Commercial and Media Filming
Media and commercial photography and filming requires prior approval. Please contact the museum in advance to obtain approval.

Exhibitions and Events
Some special exhibitions and events may have additional photography restrictions. Please check signage or ask our staff if you are unsure.

Respecting Others
Please respect the privacy of other visitors. Avoid photographing or filming people who are not part of your group.
