Remembering the Pasha Storm

Newcastle City Council Flood educators have combined forces with Newcastle Museum and the wider community to present Remembering the Pasha Storm, an exhibition that commemorates the 10th anniversary of this major event in Newcastle and the Hunter. 

The exhibition looks at why the June 2007 storm was so devastating and what happened during that brief intense period. The show examines the lessons learnt to prevent the deaths and damage the we suffered. 

Visitors can see:

• The real rescue gear used during the storm  
• Experience the day again via a new custom created virtual reality experience
• Images and video memories from NBN and Westpac Rescue Helicopter Services
• A model simulating floods shows how water flows and damage is done.

The most significant element of the exhibition is the memory wall for visitors to leave their own stories of what happened to them during the storm. We are asking people to tell stories of that time or bring in print offs of photos, name those who were lost and remember.
 

Virtual Reality Experience

Relive the drama of the Pasha Storm through the eyes of the rescue crews on Nobbys Beach and in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, as a crew member on the Pasha Bulker or caught in the rising flood inundating Newcastle West. 

Created by local company Virtual Perspective with funding from the Smart City initiative, this volunteer guided experience is only available at the following times:

Weekdays 1pm - 3pm
Weekends 11am - 1pm
