Mr Squiggle and Friends: The Creative World of Norman Hetherington

Saturday 4 July – Sunday 1 November 2026
10am – 5pm

Take a joyful, nostalgic journey with Mr Squiggle and Friends: The Creative World of Norman Hetherington. This exhibitions celebrates the creative genius behind one of Australia’s most adored children’s characters.

Considered television royalty, Mr Squiggle captivated and inspired generations of Australian children with his distinctive pencil for a nose, charming banter and uncanny ability to turn a simple squiggle into a masterpiece.

This family-friendly exhibition features an array of objects drawn from the Norman Hetherington collection, recently acquired by the National Museum of Australia. Visitors of all ages can experience hand-crafted puppets, including iconic favourites like Blackboard, Rocket, Bill Steamshovel and Gus the Snail, alongside unique wartime artworks, whimsical sketches, and colourful stage props. Visitors can also unleash their own inner artist at our interactive 'squiggle' drawing experience.

Whether you grew up watching the man from the moon or are introducing his magic to the next generation for the very first time, this exhibition invites everyone to explore their own imagination. Hurry up! Bring the family for a fun-filled day with Mr Squiggle and Friends.
