Local emerging artist Liana Goninon presents her newest fringe solo show, ‘Psychic Apparatus’- a deep, cerebral delve into the otherness that exists within all of us. Li aims to cultivate widespread acceptance of ongoing psychic processes, mental phenomena and the entire spectrum of emotion through exposing her own vulnerability and processes, by working with the unconscious and depths of her psyche. The wheel of death as a revealed symbol provides a core theme for the work; representing an ongoing cycle occurring across any and all spaces between moments that when worked with releases one from their own resistance to change, opening one up to flowing with the process.
The body of work includes a brand new collection of innovative paintings describing this process symbolically (created using hand-made solvent-free oil paint), a collection of intricately crafted water colour pieces, live art-making on site over the duration of the exhibition, an abstract artistic film displayed on the projector, soundscapes and a performance piece on opening night.
The show will be up for 3 days at the Newcastle Museum in the McIntyre Theatrette, the opening night being on Friday the 10th of Feb, 6-8pm with the remainder of the show being open to the public from 10-5pm on Saturday 11th and Sunday the 12th of February.
Entry via the Schools Entrance to Museum on Wright Lane.
