Cultural Resurgence
Speaking in Colour’s annual Cultural Resurgence exhibition, showcasing artworks made using traditional Aboriginal techniques, returns to Newcastle Museum. Cultural Resurgence is proudly brought to the community by Newcastle Permanent.
This year’s artworks have been created by more than 600 school students and community members from across the region who have all been a part of cultural enrichment programs from Speaking in Colour which culminate in the exhibition.
The exhibition is a timely reminder for everyone who attends that Australia has one of the oldest cultures in the world and these traditional practices showcase techniques handed down for many generations.
Resurgence programs are important for Aboriginal people to connect with culture but also for all Australians to learn more about ancient Aboriginal culture.
The exhibition will, for the first time, encompass National Sorry Day, National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week in this significant year in our reconciliation journey.
The exhibition is free to attend, with free guided tour also available.
