The Shake Up

A landmark live performance event for the community about the Novocastrian response to disaster and change

Join us for a monumental event at Newcastle Museum! Grab a map and choose your own adventure. Build the (cardboard) future of our city. Smell Beaumont St. Bid on damaged goods at a high-art auction. Play along with a live-TV game show. Jam on sound sculptures made from scrap. Rock to live music at the ultimate relief concert.

In the year of the 30th anniversary of the 1989 Newcastle earthquake, local teenagers and emerging artists respond to moments of change, bringing Novocastrians of all ages together to take pride in our shared resilience. Building the future we want in Newcastle by learning from the past, ready for whatever shake ups come our way…

Across the last two weekends in June, The Shake Up will take over Newcastle Museum with a FREE live performance event for the community. Arrive from 5.30pm nightly for an evening of theatre, art, live music, food and more. This event has limited capacity – online registration is strongly encouraged to ensure you don’t miss out!

The Shake Up has been developed by Tantrum X and Tantrum neXus, our teenage and emerging artist performance ensembles.

This event is supported by CreateNSW through its Regional Partnerships funding.
