FREE workshop: Smart City and Internet of Things 101



Facilitated by Core Electronics, this workshop is designed for makers of all skill levels and features hands-on kinetic learning. There will be two projects, and everyone will have the opportunity to explore internet-enabled technology with support along the way. Attendees will learn how to create a simple home automation system which connects their phone to projects around their house. We will also create an artistic project that combines hardware with internet services that you use every day!

FREE talk:

Beneath the Lunar Crust presented by HEDG (Hunter Valley Earth Sciences) with Craig O'Neill. He’s presenting info from some of the recent lunar missions, focussing on the geological history of our Moon, and how this information might be used in missions to set up habitation there or as the nest step off to go into our solar system.

FREE talks:


Putting the A in STEAM with Dr Angelo Fraietta - describing how artistic methods and practices have been used in Science, and how creative ideas inspire and seed thoughts that become scientific breakthroughs.


Palm Oil vs the Orangutans with Dr Tim Roberts - looking at the world’s thirst for palm oil as an affordable ingredient in so many foods and other products has put these animals on the endangered and critically endangered list. 
5.30 for 6pm start

Hunter Science Festival

So many shows, hands-on activities and scientists for you to engage with!
Including:
• Science Shows by Museum Express - 11:15am, 12:15pm, 1:15pm - the favourite Gums to Bums - what exactly happens to your food once it goes into your mouth… to what comes out the other end!
• Live Animal Shows - 10:5am, 11:15am, 12:15am
• Build and race a solar car
• Climb aboard the garbage truck
• Find out just how smart a Smart Pole is
• Learn about and get close to some Australian reptiles and insects
• Check out the Science & Sustainability bus & explore Antarctica like Mawson did

Free Creative Coding Workshop

3pm-5pm

This wonderful workshop with Dr Angelo Fraietta from the University of NSW utilises STEAM - you will working on basic programming for music based on the positions of the stars and modifying the virtual spacecraft.

Suitable for 14yrs and up
