Men in Sheep's Clothing - The History of the Sheepskin Diggers Vest
This book explores a remarkable story of Australian innovation, self-sacrifice, determination and love. During the winters of the Great War, soldiers were dying of pneumonia or freezing to death in muddy trenches. The people of Australia responded with a practicalsolution-the design, manufacture and provision of a lifesaving sheepskin vest given to every digger. 'Men in Sheep's Clothing' explores the story of the vest and its impact on Australians, as a commemoration to the Centenary of Anzac, (the men who wore them), the Centenary of the Red Cross (the ladies who made them in WWI), the Country Women’s Association (the ladies who made them in WWII), the extraordinary generosity of the Australian people and its recreation.
Please join us and Dr Naomi Parry, The University of Sydney, Office of Provost and DVC, Project Coordinator, NSW Centenary of Anzac Book Project to launch the book and celebrate this incredible story of Australian innovation and community.
