School Holidays: Earth Day 2026

Join us as we craft leaf crowns, make recycled bubble wands and share in mindful movement simple experiences designed for families to slow down and gather together. Because when we come together in small, meaningful ways, we plant the seeds for gentle collective change.
Experiences include:
Acacia Play – Gather with us to create leaf crowns from thoughtfully foraged finds, bubble wands adorned with recycled beads and bamboo and mindfully move together. These experiences are designed to slow down the pace of daily life, inspire creativity, and encourage connection with each other and with the natural world.
Session: 10am – 12pm

Science Shows - Join Museum Scientist Catherine for our popular, free science shows! Discover earthquakes, volcanoes – and yes, BONUS dinosaurs! Learn about the Newcastle Earthquake and explore the rocks beneath our feet. These sessions fill quickly- please arrive 10-15 minutes early.
Sessions: 10:15am and 11:15am
Location: McIntyre Theatrette
Mini Kuueeyung - Learn about the practice of traditional canoe-making in this family friendly making activity led by proud Gringai/Worimi man and Cultural Knowledge Holder Luke Russell.
Session: 10am – 12pm

- Please bring a hat and sunscreen for outdoor play.
- In case of wet weather, outdoor activities may be relocated – check with Museum staff on arrival.
- Families are welcome but all children need to be supervised.
