Collection

Newcastle Museum collects, preserves and interprets objects for and about Newcastle. Today, there are more than 13,500 objects in the Museum’s collection. Our collection tells the stories of Newcastle and Novocastrians. These stories are held in objects from across Newcastle’s histories and includes everything from industrial machinery to lacework By caring for the material culture of Newcastle and its people, Newcastle Museum aims to preserve and share the stories of Novocastrians.

The Newcastle Museum grows with the support of the people of Newcastle. Most of our collection has been generously donated by members of the community. Curatorial and collection staff maintain the Museum’s collection and manage donations that define the city and region according to the terms of the museum’s Collection Policy.

Newcastle Museum works continuously to ensure these objects and stories will be preserved for the benefit of future generations.
