Refugee Week 2013

Sat 22- Thurs 27 Jun 2013

At 1pm on Saturday June 22 we're inviting everyone who is a part of the Australian community to meet at Newcastle Museum then 'Walk Together' in recognition that although we've all arrived here via different pathways we share a common Australian journey.

We're Aboriginal Australians, we're refugees, we're skilled migrants, we're long-term Australians, we're international students, we're asylum seekers... we're all people. It's time to Walk Together into a future where diversity is celebrated, fear is replaced with welcome and where everyone belongs.

Now in its second year the Newcastle Walk Together event will begin at Newcastle Museum where families are encouraged to come early and enjoy art and craft activities with the kids. The walk will then conclude at Civic Park with a festival including keynote speeches, food, music and arts and crafts, celebrating the diversity of our wonderful city.

Join us to walk together on Saturday 22 June.

10am Newcastle Museum opens. Join craft tables to make colourful flags for the march. Cratf tables will be open from 10 - 1pm.

11.30pm  - 12.10pm Kiyomi Calwell will be running a hands on Taiko (Japanese Drumming) experience workshop.

12.30 - 1pm Morgana Osaki will be playing a Japanese harp.

1pm March starts from the Museum lawn to Civic Park.

It's time to walk together.
