Volunteers make an important contribution to Newcastle Museum. They share their time and skills in a variety of roles including:

General Museum Guides

Volunteers engage and assist with the general public with the provision of extra knowledge and general concierge responsibilities. This is great way to get to know the museum as well as the local community.

Casual Volunteers

Some exhibits and events require a little bit of extra help. This group of volunteers are called on from time to time to assist. You may be asked to operate a new Virtual Reality kit, or to catapult teddy bears across the room. Volunteers are rostered on as the need arises.

Collections Management

With an extensive and growing collection, volunteers assist with the collection, preservation and cataloguing of many different items. This volunteer role may include handling fragile or precious items to writing up content ready for the database. Volunteers receive specialised training over time and have the opportunity to get behind the scenes at the Museum. This role is at the discretion of the Newcastle Museum registrar and is limited in places.
